We all arrived and were introduced to the the Royal Navy. We then got into groups of four and completed three main activities.
There was an activity called ‘Navigation’. One person stood to one side and the others had blindfolds. The person then helped the blindfolded people into a safe space by giving directions. This task was an exercise in demonstrating trust and teamwork.
We were told that the Navy helped in the Caribbean by setting up communication towers. So, we built our own using some equipment provided by the Royal Navy. We had to complete our towers within a given time limit and they had to stay up properly. This task focused on improving and developing our problem-solving skills.
For our next activity, we stood on the outside of a square. In the middle, there was a bomb (a bucket) that we needed to remove without going into the square. We only had ropes to help us remove the bucket. Once we finished that part of the activity, we had to move a ball into the bucket by using a series of pipes. This activity showed us the importance of leadership and teamwork.
Overall, the afternoon was good and everyone enjoyed the experience with the Royal Navy. At the end we told each other what we had learnt and we all seemed to have learnt good skills such as communication, trust and teamwork.
