The Midland Canoe Club was so much fun. All the Aspire2Succeed members came along.
We had to put on lifeguard vests and helmets on for safety; then we cracked right on. We did four activities: the first
one was rafting, where we split into boys and girls and raced each other up and down a stretch
of the river Derwent. It was very close but the girls won! We even had a water fight and
everyone got wet.
The second activity was canoeing in pairs, one boy and one girl – about half the group did this.
This activity depended on good teamwork because you both had to control each other’s half. We
completed some laps in the river to help us improve – very scary but fun.
While we were doing this activity, the other half of the group were kayaking, which was an activity where it was on one
person with one oar in the boat. It was very difficult and required good balance as it was very easy to tumble
over if we were not careful. Two people actually fell in the river and someone lost their glasses!
But it was still very fun!
For our last activity we did paddle boarding. This was where we were on top of a paddle
boat and had an oar to steer us through the river. Again, keeping balance was very difficult, and I had
to kneel at first. However, it got easier and we were able to paddle board properly by the end.
Overall, the activities were very fun and it was a great outing and experience for everyone there!
